   WHAT IS GESTALT THERAPY

Gestalt Therapy is essentially concerned with developing awareness of, and contact with one self and the social and emotional environment in the here and now.

Traditionally the focus in therapy was on the individual and intrapsychic experience, increasingly however the focus is two fold, on individual experience and on how the person relates in the therapeutic relationship and on the interaction with the environment. Our approach is rooted in the creative insights of Netta and Marvin Kaplan, Nof Yam, Institute of Advanced Gestalt Therapy, Israel and the late Vincent Humphreys of the Dublin Institute of Gestalt therapy which draw on Systems theory Field theories and Constructivism. In this approach emphasis is placed on the quality of support that emerges between therapist and client as they attempt to forge a working relationship. With this support the client is encouraged to experiment and risk new ways of being and relating with the therapist, which in turn leads to making more satisfying life choices in the world.

Gestalt Therapy is suited to both short term and long term work as its focus from the outset is on improving the healthy functioning of the individual, couple or family
