Patricia Allen-Garrett

Patricia Allen-Garrett, BSc (Hons) Psychology, MSc Counselling & Psychotherapy, Dip Counselling & Psychotherapy, MIAHIP, ECP, Sensory Motor Therapy Level 1, MIAHIP

Patricia graduated with a psychology degree in 2003 and then trained and qualified as a humanistic and integrative psychotherapist in 2006 with the Dublin Counselling and Therapy Centre and is accredited with Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapists (IAHIP).

She believes people come to counselling/therapy for lots of different reasons, for example; to clarify what is important to them in their lives, to get in touch with their inner resources, to work through childhood experiences and trauma, to live their lives in a more fulfilling and insightful way, to explore feelings, to receive support at a time of crisis and during transitional periods in life, to work through “stuckness”, to explore areas of pain and to live a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

Working from a humanistic and integrative perspective she believes each person is the expert on their own lives and that being in a non-judgemental and therapeutic relationship a person can find their own way forward. Believing that the body is a huge resource in therapy, Patricia incorporates body-psychotherapy as well as traditional talk therapy particularly in her work with trauma and her sensory-motor training supports her in this work.

Patricia is also engaged in groupwork with people who have attempted suicide or who are struggling with suicidal ideation.  She lectures as a core-faculty member on the Dublin Counselling & Therapy Centre’s Masters Programme in Counselling and Psychotherapy as well as on a number of trauma training courses and has been involved in the training of counsellors and psychotherapists since 2008.  She has a particular interest in trauma, suicide and the psychology of happiness.  She also provides webinars and workshops in areas of mental health including anxiety, mindfulness, self-care and developing happiness.
